This performance of Balanchine's Apollo with a Stravinsky score was at Boston Ballet's Gala, 25 October 2006. Gonzalo and Tina are guest artists from the San Francisco Ballet (and so it took a little extra time to get their approvals.) Lots of people think Gonzalo is the finest male dancer of his generation.

All shot with Canon 5D + 135mm f/2.0. Exif data for the individual images can be found in this gallery.

these are fantastic, you've really got this ballet thing nailed.

not that you can do anything about it, but that floor looks awfully dirty.

Great shots. I love the fourth one in the series particularly. Such beautiful lines.

Ballet dancers use rosin on their shoes for traction. This flakes off and coats the floor with that dusty looking film and looks nasty, unfortunately there's not much you can do to prevent it. If the lighting designer has focused their side lights well, they will not hit the floor, so you can wait until (if) there is a lighting cue that is all side light with nothing else. That will make the floor disappear....

Hmm, he's not the first one who didn't like the rosin on the floor. Perhaps I can do something to downplay it in post. I'll keep that in mind with the next set of images. Mostly I like to show the floor as it helps show exactly what the dancers are doing.
