Which is the best tripod between the two?

Which would be the best to buy? Or any others that are good, please let me know. Although I would like to keep it around $150.

I am using an Rebel XT with the reg. kit lens but am hoping to upgrade the lens soon.

The tripod question has been hashed several times.

Take a look through the stickes and then try the search function to
find more information on the topic of tripods and which is best.

Whoops. Left out the recommendation. Of the two, the Bogen is probably
    a better choice.

I recently asked a similar question and got a lot of replies about that exact bogen one. I ended up buying it but I can't tell if I like it or not because it's at home and I'm still at school. You can't beat the price, plus you get free shipping! :ivar

    Bogen Tripod
UT Scott, my Bogen tripod just arrived today and I have been playing with it for the past few hours and I am very pleased with it. Only thing I am disliking is I have to "keep" in mind which handle to twist to move the camera around and which moves it up/down. =) Hopefully you are as pleased with it as I am.

I just got home today and got to play with it! I love it so far, and I agree, the handle things get a little confusing but I'll get the hang of it. Tomorow I'm off for a 2 week vacation where hopefully I'll really get to put this tripod to the test :D

While I don't own that particular Bogen model, I do have the Slik 700DX. Serviceable but heavy and clunky. That round, thick quick release plate is quite the handful on the bottom on the camera and doesn't lock in as well as others. It can slip in portrait orientation, especially with longer/heavier lenses.

Although my carbon fiber Bogen is farther up the scale and I therefore can't make a direct comparison, I can say that I like the general build quality and design philosophy of their products better than Slik.

I have a different Bogen, but I doubt if I'd buy another brand now. It's been to Mexico several times as well as Hawaii & South Pacific (Fanning Island). I've always been very pleased with the brand.

I have the Bogen/manifrotto 3001 tripod, but with a different head and I think the tripod is excellent, I use it with a 1100mm Celestron telescope and camera, a DR 300 with battery pack/handle, attached. It works very well, very stable, I don't like the head as it slips, I need to get a better one. I have friends in England who go to the continent a lot and they carry the Manifrotto tripod with them. I recommend the Bogen.
