That sounds like a nice set up there - I got my 30D about two weeks ago (upgrade from a 300D) and you won't be disappointed!

And congrats on the little one!

    Wow JayDoug,

You know how to start off with a bang. Great choice in camera, lens, and flash. I'm sure you will take lots of pictures of your little girl. I hope you'll post some here for us to see. Lots of advice here on how to improve your photography, too.

Best of luck, congratulations, and send photos!

Don't see anything wrong with your list other then to say you'll be happy camper. Hope there is money left over to buy some hard drives & another cf card.

Visited friends today here are the results when using a 30D, 24-70 & 580 as a p&s. Bounce flash with the little white card pulled out.

Welcome - you're going to love your equipment (the lens is not overkill, lenses live forever!). Really looking forward to seeing the pictures.

I agree, Ziggy is one of many very knowledgeable individuals on DGrin (apologies to those who are not named below, I had to stop somewhere)...

    Ziggy,
    Andy,
    Pathfinder,
    DoctorIt,
    HarryB,
    Shay Stephens,
    ...
    ...
    ...

And, the best part? They are all friendly (like everyone else here) and want to help, they all want to help (again, like everyone else here)!

Hmmm, I think I see a pattern here somewhere!
