Trying out the 1.7 TC

Hi Y'all,

I just had the privilege of having Pathfinder and his wife Nightingale stay at my place. They are real nice folks but PF made a serious breach of etiquette during the visit when he arrived with the Sigma 300-800 lens. One should never bring longer reach than one's host into the host's house. To remedy this situation I got the 1.7 TC (that gives me 850mm to PF's 800mm). The proprieties must be kept.

Anyhow here are some of my first captures with the 1.7 TC and the 500mm.

    Wow, great captures!
If I compare these pics with others from the same lens (or TC 1.4), I think a small price is paid in details. Nevertheless, not really something worth to complain about.

    Thanks for sharing.

What's next, the Hubble? You are in Florida, you can practically pat the birds on the head there. These shots look pretty nice with the 1.7TC. Good work Harry.

Fabulous shots, Harry. I'd hang any one of them on my wall.

That 1.7TC seems to work extremely well for you. What great luck to have your own pair of eagle models.

Thanks Dick. I don't know about the loss of details. Here's an eagle with the 1.4 at ISO 160 F/6.3 -0.3 EV adj

now here's a shot with the 1.7 at ISO 200 F/6.7 no EV adjustment

I can't discern any loss of detail

Thanks Glenn. I was unsure about the 1.7 when I ordered it but the results have been real good so far.

    Wow! Beautiful tack sharp pics.

Makes me want to go out and photograph eagles.

What does the 1.7 TC do to the minimum f-stop on the 500 f/4?

    Thanks, the 1.7 makes the minimum F stop 6.7 a loss of 1 & 1/2 stops.

Thanks Nick and you can never have enough reach. It does help to love in Florida though. In truth, I had to ask the eagles to move further away so I could use the 1.7. rolleyes1.gif

Thaks Joel and they did print up nice. I'm pleased with the 1.7 so far and it is nice to have a pair of nesting eagles in the neighborhood.

Thanks Dallas, you don't have them in California because Washington state is hogging all the west coast eagles. :D

Thanks Jim and I can't see any loss of detail either.

I'm already in trouble over that shot. I told Linda it pretty well defined the basic male-female relationship. :D
