From our hike this summer to The Black Tusk and Garibaldi lake near Whistler, BC. It was more than your average day hike. 34 km round trip with an elevation gain of about 1900 meters. We did it twice this summer because the first time was so cloudy that we walked right up to the base of the tusk and had no idea it was there.

Our first look at our goal after about 7 or 8 km.

Notice the hikers scrambling up the tusk.

A flat meadow before we begin to climb again.

A look back. Stopping to take pictures quickly leaves you behind the group.

So close but the grind starts here.

    kygarden,

When climbing the tusk itself you could believe that it is coal. Actually it is the basalt core of an extinct volcano.

    Thanks for asking.

Nice shots, I've been in the area once or ten times before myself, but never climbed the tusk. Looks like fun.
    Beautiful British Columbia
