I like them both, and I liked the first one when I saw it in the challenge: it wasn't hands, smile. And it was a nice shot.
But the second one has something else, a little OOOMPH, I think. I can just imagine that water, and here it would be cold and "bad", I can just feel my soul getting ready for the two to come together.
I guess I really like the way your toes look like they are not going along with this willingly.
But what really killed me when I first saw the darn thing was how nice it was/is, and you keep saying you can't do......................anything, and you have no equipment..........no knowledge............etc.
Well, you had no thread at that time for me to raz you, but you do now.
I'd say number 2 is the better composition with the way the legs lead into the frame and the swirl of the water takes you around the picture. It is also a little closer to "from your eyes" point of view. Technically, its a good shot too. Nice light, good focus etc. Very nice shot.
