Keywording - Man I'm flippin irritated

Hey guys,

I just went through basically my entire 7gb of photos searching out a certain competitor of mine, keywording each of her photos with her name to present her family with a keyword gallery of her images to select from. After spending over an hour doing this, NONE of the photos I keyworded are showing. I keworded each gallery by using the "edit captions and keywords (bulk)" option. When going back to these photos (after finding them AGAIN, grr) it seems that the tool is adding a <space> before the keyword, in every single one of them/instance. When viewing one of these photos it lists "keywords: add" as if there are none. But when I click on "add" it shows " Patricia". I remove the space and save it again, and voila, it now appears and is searchable. FOR THE BUG HOUNDS: I also notice that when I go to "keywords: add" on a photo I have never keyworded before, when the empty dialogue box pops up, the cursor begins/appears ONE SPACE to the right of the left margin by default.

I think that should narrow the bug search significantly, but if not, just FYI when bulk keywording I selected "add" "patricia" to "selected" and of course when done clicking my thumbs, hit preview and save.

Good luck!

Steve, sorry you are having trouble with our keywords. I'll be happy to look into things, if you can give me direct links to some galleries, and photos and specific keywords (patricia?).

I already fixed the images as I needed em done for the client, but the problem is fully reproducible:

The following caps are from http://www.downriverphotography.com/gallery/1930483/5/98473464

That particular image is still broken, haven't fixed it yet.

    118382875-L.jpg
    Notice, no space before tyler

    118382884-L.jpg
Tyler images selected. Actually I did about 10 in this gallery, all but the one I fixed is still broken, specifically #64 for this example.

    118382898-L.jpg
After clicking "preview". Notice the space before tyler now. Wish I woulda noticed that earlier. :D

    118382904-L.jpg

After clicking "save", going to my main page and searching for tyler
The only ones showing being those that I keyworded through Adobe Bridge before uploading.

    118382917-L.jpg
Finding image #65 in the Waterford gallery linked above. Notice the keywords listing none.

    118382943-L.jpg
Clicking the "edit" button reveals there is indeed a keyword set. Again, notice the space before tyler.

    118382997-L.jpg
    Removing the space and saving.

    118383003-L.jpg
Searching again and tyler finally shows up correctly.

I found that all you have to do is hit save again and ignore the space.

    Click edit to add keyword
enter keyword after existing space and hit save
    no keyword shows
    Click edit
see keyword is there already with leading space
hit save and now keyword shows

    Add another to same image
    click edit
enter 2nd keyword and hit save
    only 1st shows no 2nd
    click edit
    both shown in box
    hit save
    now both show

    Al

EDit: Deleted keywords took twice too
    click edit
    delete keywords
    hit save
    keywords still show
    click edit
    box is empty
    hit save
    keywords gone

Just to confirm Allen's tests, yesterday I added probably 10 keywords for Tyler in that gallery. I repaired one manually as shown in the screenshots and that one was then searchable, etc. Today, I simply opened the "edit captions and keywords (bulk)" tool for that entire gallery, and without clicking preview clicked "save" and it updated/fixed all of the ones I had tagged and they are now searchable and display keywords correctly. Hopefully another facet for the bug hounds to bite onto.

    Thanks,

I just used edit keywords (bulk).
    * all keywords were empty.
    * i added tyler to all photos
    * i clicked preview
    * I clicked save

The keyword was saved immediately and searchable.

Am I doing something different than you were?

I'm not sure. All my steps were screenshotted above. But I do know that once you bulk edit the keywords and save twice, it seems to fix the <space>/no display problem, so perhaps the gallery you were working in had already been saved twice. Maybe try it with http://www.downriverphotography.com/gallery/1621237
following my steps above, only preview and save once. That gallery has never been keyworded or bulk saved before, so it should reproduce the problem for you. The save twice workaround is rather viable, so although this is a bug and will be a nasty suprise to some, if you know how to get around it, it's not that big of a deal. Also for the above mentioned gallery where I spent hours keywording and they never showed, I only had to visit that gallery again, bulk edit, resave and they all showed afterward.

Good luck finding the little bugger

Could be a browser thing, too. Which browser do you experience this in, and is it replicable in others for you? We can't replicate it - yet.

FF2 is out, you'll get it next update, why not try it now?

Wondering now if someone beat us to a fix. I can't replicate it in either browser at this point and before, I couldn't NOT replicate it. Danno. Before, when I'd bulk edit and hit preview, it would show a leading space in every keyworded preview window. Now it doesnt. No idea. If someone headed this off, thanks. If not, I'll blame it on ghost of Christmas past, but I have screenshots to prove it!

I used FF2 when I ran the above procedure, it acted the same in
FF1.xxx before I updated, so there is no difference between the two. It
commonly shows up when adding keywords per pic.

Edit: Steve's right, the space seems to be gone.

I just noticed this exact problem also, there was a space before my keywords when bulk adding. My keywords dont seem to work at all right now.

Go back to the same gallery/galleries that aren't showing your keywords and bulk edit them again, but as soon as you get in, just hit save and exit and it should update them and they should all show afterwards.
