The Hobbyist is the luckiest boy in the whole world!
Santa heard he wanted an SLR and got him a nice one -- Canon FTb with a 50mm f/1.8 lens in pretty excellent condition. :barb
[edit] Found a manual online. Need to find a battery for the meter and hope it's not broken.

Thanks! I found it. I just ordered a non-mercury battery online from eBay as well. I hope the meter's not broken but everything else on the camera seems solid.
I still play around with my parents' AT-1,

That is one sick camera. I have one similar to it, except minolta.

I had an FTB (for the betweener) a LOT of years ago. Solid machine. You could drive nails with it and it would come for more! The only thing I didn't like was the mirror slap but it has a mirror lockup so that's OK.
Enjoy ... it's a great camera from a time when they made REAL cameras

Which battery does this camera take? If it is the 675, I have a hint for you. If you find yourself using it a lot you might want to compare the cost of the #675 hearing aid batteries to the camera version. I wear a hearing aid and after I bought a Vivitar 220, that has a match needle meter, back in that same era, mid 1970's, the local dealer and I discovered this. He was a family friend as well so I felt comfortable trying it. There is a very slight difference in voltage (1.4 compared to 1.35) that he said would not make a difference and it did not.
Thanks for the advice but I (finally!) got my battery and put it in and ... it works! The meter for this 30+ year old camera still works!
Tomorrow, as soon as it's light out, I'm taking pictures!
