Some close ups from earlier in the year. Have to get out and take some more pictures! Jeepers! Forgot all my harassing skills.
Posted some ones where I pulled back and now for the ones that are my favorite...up close and personal.

I really like the second picture. She fills the frame nicely and her beautiful eyes are clear and obviously the focus. (I also like how her necklace accentuates that fact.)

The first shot doesn't really do it for me. His face focused and off center makes it appear that you didn't mean to compose it this way. Maybe you just wanted to center his eye? Maybe then a smaller depth of field would have worked better to show this?

Nice eyes on both subjects though and I'd like to see more.

More of your excellent work. I find the second photo striking, her eyes draw me in, the wide angle of the lens isn't apparent and adds to the focus/composition. Sorry though, the first I'm not so crazy about, the distortion (caused by the wide lens?) draws my eye to his nose. His eyes are strong. Go harass him again, but shoot him at 105mm.

I like the 2nd one also. Nice balance of up close with the WA without the distortion. Which is why I think the first one doesn't work. If his nose IS that big, he needs to be shot less wide. That si teh downside of that type of lens.

Did you shoot these witha prime lens, or WA zoom? If the zoom, check your EXIF and see the actual length for hers and try it on him.

You say "usual style" like that's a bad thing! I think these are both good, and I agree that the 2nd is better. I think that having her turned a bit made the difference here, and it didn't hurt that she has lovely eyes.

I'll just go ahead and disagree with everyone so far. #1 is far better. Cleaner, simpler. Very stylish, I dig it.

That being said, they're both great. I'm with DJ, you have a great style, always like to see your shots.

i dig both...although in the first pic the right side of his face is a little soft. i could cut my retinas on the left side though!

i'd love to see some more of your freckled friend! she was an interesting subject.

Christiana & Ken- So I'm too close- nose too big? I hear you it can be distracting I blurred it a little bit and while the process seems too small to post I think that it works much better. I just never had the problem you guys had I was always taken with his eyes.
jdryan- I was shooting with the prime lens- 18-55mm its the only one I have and I get really close because I like these shots and hence I probably get that odd distortion that I've never really noticed. I'll watch for it. That and I have a borrow of a lens and I'm going to be getting my own telephoto lens soon hopefully.
DJ- No not a bad thing- but I would like to crack the box every once and a while.
Erik- Yea, I was always taken more with the first than the second- that's why I led with it. Same reasons really- brighter and sharper- it drew me in more than the neutral kind of set up on the girl.

I do have to agree he's got some wonderful, kind eyes and after seeing the crop Salazar I am able to focus even more on them, but I just can't see them as the main subject of that first shot with it's current crop. Did you take any other ones of him?

Really nice job, I'd like to do more work in portraits and I think these are very nice.

Okay they aren't that different from the original but I usually only spend like 15 minutes with people before they go to class mostly. Haha... and stupidly I did not save them in color but only in black and white so here they are.

I like the first one! The open expression and more open eyes help me focus on them. And, B/W nicely works for this shot!

And, the blurrier nose in this second shot makes me like the composition better than when it's in color.

I like the first one. Eyes sharp and twinkle. And the slight blur of the nose makes it less noticable, so I am drawn to the eyes first. Nice B+W also.

The first shot is too hard on the eyes...I mean the background is too white...the second picture is softer...you don't focus on the background with #2 like you do #1. JMHO.
