Ice Eggs

Uh, I think this would fall under the category of "cool" shots . . . :ivar

Anyway, sub-freezing temps and receeding high creek water left these behind - unfortunately hanging onto an icy rock. I wish I had a picture of me trying to get this one!

The background is the stream water. Indirect light. Canon 100 mm macro on gitzo tripod with boom arm (I love that thing!)

Comments welcome!

I just made up the name, but it seems to fit. I grew up in the Bay Area (Concord) and I never saw any there, either! The lows were in the teens here when I found these, and that stream canyon is like a refridgerator!

Ice hard to find unless it's in the freezer...
    Where are you located now?

I wish someone did take a photo of you shooting that! The boom sounds very interesting too.

Thanks for your comments - I feel better already!

Dee, I'm in Ashland, Oregon these days. I get down to the Bay Area occasionally. Sam, I think you posted some nice Yosemite shots on one of the forums recently. I miss that place - used to go up there in my early photo days a few decade ago :D !

Too bad we can't post megabyte files - they would look so much better in terms of contrast & detail. I guess we could just pretend they're just raw files full of potential.

    Seriously cool!thumb.gif

The combination of odd shapes and odd colors combine to make a nice abstract composition. Almost festive.
