Just got a 580EX. I'm learning...big time. Here are a few from our family gatherings. I tried bouncing most of these...and using the built in bounce card. I think I'm going to up to the "do it yourself BETTER bounce card" in one of those popular threads here on dgrin.

Thanks for the comments. We had a great time. I ate a lot so I think I gained at least 2 pounds.

I think the hardest part about these pictures besides learning to use the flash was getting use to standing in front of family with my SEMI-pro rebel(they think it's pro). It's a little intimidating for them I think, but they are getting use to "Kevin the photographer". I guess I felt like I took just enough, but wish I took more photos of the food....and more candids. All this and trying to hang out with family. Next family event, I'll shoot until I'm sick and then I'll probably feel like I covered the event better.

    Thanks for looking

    -Kevin

nice and cosy. First two shots are a bit too warm, but in case of family photos it probably adds to the warm nature of such meeting.

Congrats on the flash, bouncing can create some pretty crazy lighting effects. Love the first one!

These are nice photos. The baby with the bow is hilarious. You have a nice looking family; looks like a happy day.

I have a Sto-Fen diffuser for my 430EX and I love it. I wish I had the 580's power. I also have a Lumiquest pocket bounce and a soft box. All are great (and inexpensive), but I use the Sto-Fen the most.

    Keep shooting and posting.
