good bye, old friend

Mao was 18 1/2 years old; been with us almost all of my married life. My husband said I got what I wanted - a cat with character:D. From a fuzz-ball of a kitten who went sliding across our hard wood floors on our kitchen chairs to a crotchety old man who literally voiced his "need" for food every time we went into the kitchen, he's been a good companion. He didn't get around much in his last few years, but still wanted a lap and would nuzzle in your arm and purr. I will miss the sounds of him. Have you ever heard a siamese talk? Mao made most of them seem quiet. And you could hear him purr from across the room. In spite of still having two active boys, two other cats and a dog, the house is too quiet.

Good bye, old friend. :cry

Wow! 18 years, that's amazing for a cat! I'v had one for nearly 15 before she needed to be put to sleep when she could no longer get around, feed or groom, so you have my sympathys. Great shot too, frame it and place it in a place of honor.thumb.gif

Mao, what a great name especially for a Siamese-and what nerves you must have, of steel, to listen to that speech for 18 years! What a character. My sympathy on your loss.

I lost my Velcro-kitty late this summer, also at 18.

My condolences. Losing a pet is so difficult. He was with you a good long time. With 18+ years I am sure you have plenty of fond memories that will always be with you.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts.

Jeff - you're right, I shouldn't be sad - he lived a good life and graced us with his presence - but it's hard not to be.

Maestro and Dick - yeah, 18 yrs is a long life for a cat, but we've got another who will be 20 in Feb.! While Delphi is special too, Mao was my baby and will always hold a special place in my heart.

RM - thanks for the comments on the photo - maybe I'll just do that.

Lynn - While Mao's talking got to me occassionally, it was my husband who bore the brunt of the "feed me", being the 1st one down in the AM. And, yeah, he was a character:D

So sorry for your loss. It's wonderful you had such a long and happy relationship with your baby Mao. They really become such a big part of our lives... it isn't until they are gone that we realize just how big the void remaining will be.

The extent of your grief is in direct proportion to the love you shared. Be thankful for the love.
