A year's worth of shooting. Lots of frames and pixels.
I was thinking this morning (a dangerous thing), trying to decide what my favorite shot taken in 2006. I've been posting a-shot-a-day in the Daily Photos smugmug community all year (btw, come and join the community, just take a photo-a-day and post) - I decided to pick my favorite out of the nearly 365 pictures and call it my favorite. Tougher than I thought.
Anyone want to play along and post your favorite shot of the year? Reply and attach your best.
Here's my choice:

I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself.

This is a composite shot. I caught the heron 12 minutes after I shot the rainy sunrise scene, and transplanted it to make my dream shot. I really like the result and the feeling it engenders, but wouldn't feel good about keeping its history a secret.
I can't wait to see everyone's fav's, so c'mon, y'all!

I like this image because it reminds me of a nice day and it was so very windy that I was happy I got any pictures I liked.
These are willow-leaved sunflowers. I used my Canon PowerShot A 520 for this.

Hi, Skippy!
Thanks for putting up this cool froggy (frogs are some of my favorite people)! I LOVE those colors and you nailed its eye in focus. Real up-close-and-personal! I'll show you my tree toad sometime. Oh, what did you rescue him from?
I'll often tilt the camera a bit on shots like this, to give a diagonal line (stem) rather than a straight horizontal one - seems to give the shot a more dynamic feel (and no one ever knows the difference! :-)

I have two teenage sons, two years but three grades apart. This past school year they were in 9th and 12th grade (the first and last years in high school, for our non-US friends here).
Though they fight like brothers, they also are close like brothers, and I was happy to get this picture on Prom night. I figure this is one of three times I'll ever see them in Tuxes together (the other two possabilities being their weddings, whenever those happen).
It's not the best picture from a technical standpoint, but it's my personal favorite.

For digital, well this one took a lot to get so I'm proud of it:
And for digital space shots this year, I guess this would top it out:
It's hard to choose though!

Boy, I'm really surprised at how difficult it is pick a favorite. So here are a few favorites.
This is the one that most people pick who have seen prints of my photographs.
Man in blue taken in the Belleville section of Paris on March 31, 2006
One of my favorite Paris photos, also taken in Spring 2006.
A favorite out of many of my favorite subject. September 2006

This is indeed a great photo. I can't believe how you got the bus driver's reflection in the rear view mirror! And the exposure seems spot on... did you do a lot of work in post processing? You've captured the excitement of a big city too.

Hmmmm, I'm not a "car person" but this is a great photo. So dreamy and almost romantic in feel -- for a car? well, it works.

Thanks!
When asked my wife said this was her favorite

It's been a couple of months ago - I don't remember all that I did to the shot during post. Not very much, sharpness, color adjustment, a little sponge desaturation, some minor dodging and burning, noise reduction. By the way, it's a handheld shot! Here's a nearly no-modification conversion from the original Nikon NEF (Raw) file:
Thanks for the comments.
KUDOS TO THOSE WHO HAVE POSTED SOME REALLY GREAT SHOTS IN THIS THREAD! Cool!
