I think the thing that most impressed me was the feeling of heat coming from the left of the photo. Really added an extra punch to an already dynamic image of a heavy piece of antique machinery.

Congratulations to the winner. I actually composed this early in the voting before I knew the winner. Congrats, all the entries were good shots and all finalists deserving.

I don't know how they beat mine but its obvious that the judging is f-

    KIDDING! KIDDING!!!

    Here goes.

I told myself from now on when I enter I'm going to comment on all finalists.

    so here goes.

not my bike- too cluttered. doesn't relate to the theme well.

17 jewels and time machine. good shots, but for me, just doesn't relate to the theme at all. those are watches. I know the argument could be made that watches are machines but for me, they just don't relate strongly enough. and to further that argument, most of the other finalists wouldn't be accepted in a contest when the theme was watches. :D

decent shots though, the 17 jewels being very good.

daylight steam engine. a good shot but something about it is too stationary. machinery should in some way indicate motion, or potential of. I think if it was a little less in your face it would help, but still a pretty good shot.

armed and dangerous. nice shot. relates to the theme well. shows good composition. I think it would have worked better horizontialy than verticaly but that may not have been possible.

old lift. good shot. relates real well. good subject. being too washed out kills it.

machine man. my least favorite. doesn't relate to the theme at all.

classic machine. a good shot but for that style I think the foreground needs to be more detailed, a tad more flash may have helped a lot. sewing machine fits the theme but I think the subject is too dormant.

cranes. my favorite. great shot. great use of what was available. the lack of motion is countered by the sleeping power that the machinery is capable of. almost reminds me of the growing fields in the matrix.

untitled. as a motorcyclist, I'll say its a good shot, but with the chain being the only thing in focus, it lacks focus. or something like that. I think there were better shots to be had at that particular time.

    sincerely,

    amadeus.
