Equifest 2006

On Friday I went to Equifest at the LA Equestrian Center. Equifest is a pre-Rose Parade display of all the equistrian events participating in the Rose Parade. Unlike the Rose Parade, many of the groups performed for the spectators. Aside from the crummy lighting of the Equistrian Center, this was a very enjoyable event featuring truly magnificant animals.

    Gary,
Nice job in what I KNOW was hard lighting conditions.thumb.gif The B/W of the ropers is my favorite.

PS, I used to work with the horses at Medieval Times (Baltimore/Washington) and I know some guys from the California castle...small world huh? And, one small correction, Medieval Times uses Andalusians (not Lipizzaners)

Yep... it was a domed arena with open sides ... so everything on the perimeter was severly backlighted while the interior was barely 1600. Andalusians huh ... swear I thought they said Lipizzaners ... well goes to show ya I'm not a horse person. Thanks for the look.

Yup. They breed them at Chapel Creek Ranch in Texas.
    Info Here

And, this shot was probably a courbette.

However, if could also be a capriole if the horse kicked out at the end like this:

since the moment before that looks like this, which is very similar to what you posted.

And, as far as I know Tom Reid in Florida is the only trainer who does the courbette, but David Jay (the california trainer, but not the man pictures) may trian courbettes too.

Something about horses, flags and a gallop all mixed together creates a serious pleasure for the rider.
