Did you end up getting the lens? My boss loves his, but for the price I'm not a big fan. My Canon 35/2 performs just as good at dang near half the price! Build quality on the sigma is better, but nothing to sneeze at considering the size of the lenses. Biggest benefits towards sigma are a better aperture (I think 7 or 8 blade compared to 5) and USM. In reality the noisy motor on the 35/2 isnt all that noticable. The ef28/1.8 is a crappy lens IMHO...at least compared to the 35/2 or the 30/1.4
One of the best!
I use this quite a bit. I bought, tested and returned both the 35/2 and the 28/1.8. In my opinion the 30/1.4 is a stellar lens. Sharper, faster to focus and better built that the 35 & 28 Canons by far. I also have the 50/1.4, 85/1.8 and 17-40/L. I find that I only use the 17-40/L in the 17 to 24 range because the 30/1.4 is just so much more versitile due to the big apeture. I'm always suprised at how sharp the 30 is, somewhere between the 50 and the 85 in terms of sharpness.
