Recommendation for an EXIF editing tool?

Hi Folks,
Recently a bunch of my pictures lost the date taken entry from their exif data. The data digitized (and all other exif data) is still intact. Does anyone have a tool they recommend that could automate the process of re-inserting the date taken based on the date digitized? It would also be useful for me since my camera phone doesn't insert a date taken.
If no other option is available I'm just going to manually re-insert the data using exifer... but there are hundreds of pictures.

P.S. For the curious: I think the error occurred when I tried to increment the date taken by an hour. Not sure, however, which of my tools did it, still trying to reproduce the problem with some test files.:dunno
