As we promised [in this thread], the lucky winner of the copy of CS2 is...
ha! you're not getting it out of me that quickly! :lol3 Over the course of 4 challenges (77-80) we had some of the biggest entrant and voter turnouts in all of challenge history - 143 photos and 910 votes! Thank you all for your participation - as the host, you've given me more work, but you've also made it worthwhile, with lots of nice photos to look at. Please keep them coming!
I've run out of stalling... so
the
winner
chosen by a really slick random number generator
(I made the list)
(Andy spun the wheel)
(DavidTO watched...
... and then we ran it by gus' cat)
is:
Congratulations - and thanks for participating consistently in all the challenges!
Happy new year and stay tuned for more crazy giveaways in 2007!

I guess I'll have to change my tune... I am totally surprised... and I can, indeed, put Photoshop CS2 to extremely good use! I'm still too stunned and surprised for it all to sink in (besides I just woke up and am still groggy!)
Thanks Dgrin, what a great forum!

I had it all planned out, i've been saving photo's for a month just waiting
for the program to get here, only to have my plans ruined . :cry
Oh well, maybe when CS5 or 6 or 7 comes out I'll get another chance.
(I suppose I could sell the CS2 book on Ebay, I won't need it anymore):(: : : : :

I understand exactly how you feel. Gus has "my" Canon 30D!!!
I've been using Photoshop since version 3 -- before layers! Then I had to learn layers, then masking. I would consider myself a proficient user, I even use "layer sets" and "layer comps" but when it comes to some things in photoshop, I'm a mere beginner.
I don't use photoshop "just" for photography. I use it for other purposes such as design work. Back in the old days I used Kai's Power Tools to create backgrounds for brochures, ads, etc. I really miss those!
I made my gradations in photoshop, because by adding slight noise there wouldn't be any apparent banding when the job was printed. This was before Quark and InDesign got their act together. Now, I just let the prepress department deal with that stuff. So many things have changed since digital printing came into being.
I also had to do many "clipping paths" on product photography where the client wanted a different background -- think back to before the extraction tool. I also had to "retouch" art supplied to us by freelance illustrators. Sometimes I actually got to play and create something from scratch...
When I got a digital camera in 1999 I started learning how to process photos, and I'm still learning.
Photoshop CS2 has some really neat things that CS doesn't so I'm looking forward to being able to use them.
Try the beta version of Lightroom, you may be amazed at what can be accomplished in color/exposure correction, etc.
There are Photoshop-like programs out there, depending on your operating system that you could try. I'm so used to Photoshop I find them a little hard to learn. On the Mac side, we have the GIMP, which I haven't really played with that much, but I hear is pretty good for a free program.
Better luck next time???

Ever since this wonderful announcement that I was the very lucky and fortunate winner of Photoshop CS2 I've been waiting and looking for a package. Today as I was sitting at my computer I sensed a shadow pass by my window. I looked and a woman was going to my door, banged on the door, and promptly left.
And indeed, there was a package left on my doormat. Could it be my CS2?
YES... it was my CS2. I quickly ran for my trusty Xacto knife and tore into that cellophane tape!
A little artful arranging and here it is!
And finally, the open CD on my CRT!
I'm so happy! Thanks dgrin!

Thanks Skippy! I've already used the red-eye correction a couple of times! I haven't had time to use all the new features yet, but my favorite is to preserve original! Something that is really handy.
