Hello,
Just came back from our trip to the Nation's Capital for the NYE 2006. We sacrificed some fireworks for the great monuments and photo opportunities. Most importantly I got to test out my Christmas present Canon EF 70-300 IS USM.
C&C welcomed
Chicago O'Hare concourse to Gates C. Some pretty lights!
Famous Washington Metro Staton architecture.
We stayed in the Hotel next to Department of Education.
Started next day from walk around the Capitol and encountered Train Exhibit. Pretty neat stuff they put together with I think 6 different trains and nice tracks with tunnels and bridges.
Cloudy day so the B&W works better on this Capitol shot.
Authentic button, anyone?? :wink
Interesting sculptures and fountain.
Capital playing tribute to President Ford.
Homeless, integral part of Washington DC :rolleyes
"We're watching you" :wink I almost got chased away for that shot

Ford's Theatre
A great shame of being pulled over by bicycle police
White House and flag "half mast" for Gerald Ford.
WWII Memorial.
Ducks in Reflective Pond.
Lincoln Memorial, a lot of people there.
Nice architecture and columns.
Abe Lincoln, a must shot.
Some night shots of sights seen during the day.
National Christmas Tree.
A fire next to Christmas Tree for the people to warm up.
These people carriers at Dulles Airport are hilarious
and finally killing some time between connecting flights in Cleveland OH.
This is the Yule Log. At least that's what the sign says. I thought it was just a bonfire at first. :
Oh and really nice job in the metro station. They're pretty ugly, dirty, and poorly lit. You made them look kinda alright.

I don't like the first photo though. Mainly for the reason that I know have that darn United Airlines song in my head. And I've had WAY too many bad days sprinting underground between the B and C terminals trying to make a connection to associate it with good memories
I feel your pain CatOne but i think it's better to run between terminals than wait for the luggage that never made it on the plane to begin with

And yeah, they will soon be replacing the people mover's with a monorail (well...they've been saying soon for the past couple of years).
I lived and worked briefly in "the District" over 40 years ago. I can see from your photos some things have changed and other's haven't. At the time I moved from NY to DC and the difference was drastic. I couldn't get used to things closing down so early, compared to the street traffic of NYC.
About 25 years or so ago we drove through the area and we were amazed at new roadways, apartment complexes, shopping centers, etc.
Through your photos I see so many more new memorials. I really don't remember much of the District any more... and living there I didn't do a lot of the tourist things. I remember cherry blossoms, and the reflecting pool, the Lincoln Memorial, and the old museum buildings, and of course, the capitol building.
It's nice to see our nation's capitol is looking more prosperous and tourist friendly now.
I had to chuckle at the airport photos. Bored on a plane, take pictures, that's my motto!
Thanks for sharing!

While all are great, I like you first shot of the metro the best.
Glad to see the scaffolding is down from old Abe since I was last there in October 2005. A small subset of my pix from that trip are here.
Thanks for bringing back some memories. Now I want to go back again.
I just bought plane tickets today for a trip to DC and Norfolk, VA to visit family. My first trip to the East Coast (outside of Manhattan & Long Island).
I had been wondering what to photograph and how to photograph it in ways that I hadn't already seen...you just gave me a whole lot of inspiration!
Thank you!

I've been viewing others' photos also, before i went there, to look for ideas and interesting points worth photographing.
