My first modeling shoot

Okay so it was a self portrait session but close right? I do not have hardly any pictures of myself so I guess it was needed.

Taken with olympus E-500 14-54mm, FL36 bounced off ceiling, pillow cases for background on floor (nothing fancy here), converted to b&w useing IPhoto (I was hoping to win that CS2)

Any thoughts on one to use on my site. I am favoring the first.

the lighting and detail of #1 are spot on, very well done! clap.gif
i'm not sure where you were going with the crop, his cut forehead looks weird.

    you're on the right track!

15524779-Ti.gif I agree with the above poster. I also did my own portrait to the left of this message...I think you should keep the entire face in the pic, especially with the angle you choosed. I truly think the first one is very good. Try it again...but let's see your whole face.

The first one is very excellent and well worth a re-shoot - if you can convince the model to sit for you again (might cost an extra beer or something but well worth the additional cost!).

I won't go into the merits of wether it is right or wrong to cut the forehead, but a friend of mine that went to a fashion photography school said it is one of the compositions they teach you... I found weird and didn't incorporate the info, as I usually refuse to assimilate information that I don't research by myself.

Does anybody have ever heard something like that?

I have to admit that I liked the crop, I don't know why. In terms of composition, the line formed by his eyes intersecting with the line of his nose is almost a golden mean.

That's what I mean by that... not really almost, but the angles resemble a bit...

I am very new to all of this so call me crazy too but I love the cropping of the first picture. It's artsy. :cool

    Scott- Padu- and Kathy

    Thank you for your thoughts.

Padu and Kathy- I like the look a bit myself because I feel it is more of an artistic look than the standard head shot.

Of course I can't really say I can't do a reshoot since I am the model, so I will try some more poses and try to get all of my head in the frame while hopefully still getting the lighting and angles correct.

    Thanks again!
