iTV reminds me of Windows Media Center.

The iPhone (can they please drop the "i" and come up with a name?) looks awesome, but will unfortunately be overpriced and probably not available to Verizon guys.

Neah, iTV is a bit cooler because it has a built in hard drive that can auto sync with a computer. Not essential, but nice.

It's Cingular only, till it gets unlocked, and then it will work on all GSM/Quad-band. It's also $500-$600 with a 2-year contract for the 4GB and 8GB respectively. Just a bit pricey! :)

What's really amazing is that Apple, Inc (not Apple Computers anymore after their name change today) just had a 2 hour keynote presentation without a single word about a Mac Computer or OSX.

Apple TV looks very interesting. But until I can rip my DVDs to it, it is really just an expensive music extender. I would never dream of purchasing a movie for my iPod to watch on my TV. Maybe for watching on my iPod, if I am really bored, but frankly, I am getting really sick of buying content for devices. i want device independance!!!

Read between the lines, they don't make computers anymore. ne_nau.gif

On a more serious note, I believe Jobs did mention the iPhone runs OS X, so it is a Mac computer. :D

    Yeah, right here.

But couldn't they come up with a better name? After all they didn't call their music player the iMP3.

Price was one of the the things that sank the ESPN telephone. I think they were selling it for $500, plus subscription fees for video feeds.

So, not an identical situation. But based on ESPN's experience, one wonders whether the $500 price will suppress sales.

Price could be a deal breaker for me, but more importantly is what is the service going to cost with web access and how fast will it be?

I wonder if you can use it with a Bluetooth keyboard?

It supports, Runs version of OSX. "Full desktop-class applications", and Bluetooth 2.0. ne_nau.gif

I also wish it had some of the Panasonic Toughbook qualities, for taking a beating. I don't know if I would want something that expensive to drag around everywhere and toss around the car, etc, but if I knew I could drop it and not worry that would be a deal maker.

Or Verizon will use firmware to disable all the iPhone features so it's just a phone with no cool stuff. Verizon seems to do this with their other phones-- I mean who would actually want to use the USB port on their phone? Who would want to customize their graphics or keypad? Or use bluetooth to listen to music?

    Congrats, Apple.

I think and hope it will be a huge hit for Apple. It reminds me a little of the "past" highend Sony Clie - which had a great wow factor and packed inside everything technologically available at that time. Since it will run OS X, if it can run some of Apple's other desktop apps it will definetly be a huge hit!
i cant wait till my birthday in "JUNE" - oh yea thats when it ships!!

    *snip*

Time's author as well as David Pogue had some one-on-one time with the device, and provides these additional details and observations:

    - Can't download songs directly from iTunes Store
    - Can't sync iPhone with a computer wirelessly.
    - "Web speed was OK—not great, but OK."
    - "Apple went through numerous iterations of the glass surface, trying to find one that’s not too slick or too rough, or that shows grease and fingerprints too much. "
    - "It feels amazing in your hand"
    - "Typing is difficult"

I don't know what the :puke (in the other iPhone thread) is all about. I'm no Apple disciple, but this looks pretty cool to me. So does the OQO model 02, by the way. 'Course, I won't be buying either one, gotta save up for glass.mwink.gif

I think it's about referring to him as Saint Steve?

Anyway, no Flash or Java support in the browser. Too bad.

I find it interesting that they pointed out the lack of no stylus, but why did they not make it possible not to need a keyboard? Why not add in voice recognition? Even if it had to be very specific, letter by letter, it seems that could easily be faster then thumb typing, it already has a microphone. ne_nau.gif

So what are the chances of Canon or Nikon developing a version of their remote capture software for the iPhone? Pretty small, I'll bet. Seriously though, some advantages:
    1. Nice big 3.5 in display to review images as they are shot (slightly larger would be better).
    2. Store images on iPhone as a backup to the memory card.
    3. Transfer images to a remote laptop using 802.11g so post production can start even during an event.
I can see something like this replacing the need for a $999 WFT-E1A, while providing additional functionality. This software on the iPhone is the vital missing link in my digital workflow. Anybody else see the value in it?

    and now the competitors...

I really like this one, the Prada LG KE850 for its much smaller size.
    http://kenvsryu.blogspot.com/2007/01/prada-lg-ke850-better-iphone.html

Just a concept, but should be real soon. It is drop dead sexy compared to the others IMHO.
