You have some wicked bugs in your part of the world!
Very cool to see them up close! Not so cool to see them crawling on your arm (shiver). eek7.gif:D

Thanks Elaine...i will really try to find a male...they are about twice the size of the female & have some great horns as you can see here.

Whoa! Those are unreal! Hope you can find one soon, without getting carried off and eaten somewhere!

The females are every where at the moment...i have only seen one male but sadly he was squashed on the road.

They make a loud hissing sound when you pick them up to scare you off & those hooks on their feet do make your skin crawl when they walk over you.

Hey Gus, thats a good sized Beetle, I haven't seen a Rhino down here in years, the only one I've had someone actually gave it to me.
We used to get those beautiful Christmas Beetles down this way too, but I haven't seen them in years either ne_nau.gif

Good series mate thumb.gif ..... Skippy

If that bug was any larger, you could put a saddle on it and go riding! :D

Let's do the math... let's say the average person weighs 70kg. If the beetle can carry 850x its own weight, then it would only take one 80g beetle to carry you.

Gus, I can't find how much these suckers weigh, but I'm guessing its on the order of (tens) of grams? headscratch.gif

no, i'm really curious because I couldn't find it when I googled. You had on attached to your hand - did it weigh as much as a cherry ripe bar? a can of coke? less?
