My Eye: The Macro (100th Post!)

I've been hesitant to post my own photos since I haven't felt my work was on par with some of the fantastic work here on DGrin, but I figured for my 100th post I'd go ahead and do so.

My best friend shot this recently with my camera while I was giving her a lesson. I spotted that the image had some real potential, so I unleashed some Photoshop on it :wink. C&C welcome!

I like it! But then, if you look at my Avatar of my own eye you'll see why! (I took mine a few years ago with a little 2.1MP point and shoot while holding the camera up in front of a mirror so I could be sure my eye was in the viewfinder). :)

I see you're using a "better bounce card" do you like it? I keep saying I'm going to make one but I haven't done it yet. I'm volunteering a boy scout pinewood derby this weekend and I might try one out there. :)

Nice job on your first picture post!

Thanks :D They eye color is my natural color, LAB enhanced - it's amazing what brown eyes look like when they're brightly lit. My friend actually noticed a few months ago that my eyes look like they're amazingly devoid of detail (dark brown), so we decided to test the theory mwink.gif

Thanks! It's not my first picture post - it's just been a while ne_nau.gif

It's actually a Lumiquest Ultrasoft, and I use it all the time for macro work since it's an awesome softbox size for macros and also out doors when I want slightly softer light. Indoors it's not very useful since it's not a bounce device; it basically looks like a larger direct flash head.

It'll take some time, but I'll give it a shot - I've done other eyes cleaned up and liked the look of it, but my big schnoz and eyelashes will take some time to PS out :D

Very cool. Nice detail! The first photograph I ever took with a digital camera was my eye. It was with a Canon Powershot A95 and the detail was awesome, much like this one... for some reason, I can't do the same thing with my Canon 30D. Isn't that something? It was this picture.

And yeah... my eye is odd... lots of freckles in them. I'm thinking I should get those checked out sometime soon...

I see what you were saying now though!

So, are your eyes naturally brown?

Here's a bigger, not quite as cropped version of my avatar - http://phyxius.smugmug.com/photos/122423659-O.jpg

my eyes are kinda hazelish, and this was done by desaturating, screening layers, and then adding some curves. This is the only shot I have of my eye that shows is normal color. I took this one while laying down. No mirror around. Sorry about the black eye...
