Comet McNaught - Not

The skies were very clear today in metro-Atlanta, so I thought I'd try my hand at capturing some images of Comet McNaught; which is currently very bright and visible to the unaided eye in some locations.

I went to the highest place that I could find providing clear views of the western horizon and set up to take some shots just after sundown.

I really thought I had something when I took this shot. The little blurry object looks exactly like the comet as it appears in some other photographs that I've seen. Unfortunately, about 30 seconds after I took the shot, the "comet" made an abrupt left turn and headed into Hartsfield; the Atlanta airport.

I did take advantage of the opportunity to get a couple of shots of part of the downtown Atlanta skyline from about 30 miles north of it. (These were shot at 400mm using a 2X teleconverter and then cropped)

But you still got off some nice shots. :D

naught means: nothing of value / useless / not worth seeking. The comet was true to its name last night.
