Eh? 2GB for $40 is a DEAL? (not anymore) Why is $40 for a 2GB CF card a "deal"? Sounds like the normal "street price" for 2GB cards to me. DGrin just had a different deal thread posted for 45-50x 2GB cards from B&H, Adorama, and Adray (maybe others) for $14.95 each AR -- now that was a deal.
Don't be tempted to say, "but this is a Sandisk card" -- I've found absolutely zerodifference in reliability among flash brands. In fact, the only failure I've ever had was on a Sandisk card -- no failures on Viking, Transcend, PQI, etc cards. (and the Sandisk failure cleaned up after reformatting, so I don't think even that was any kind of hardware failure) Don't get me wrong, SanDisk is one of the top brands and deserves tons of credit for inventing flash memory. I just don't see why to bother buying SanDisk brand cards over other brands nowadays, unless one needs the extra ruggedness of the Extreme series cards.

Depends on your camera and what you shoot. From what I've seen in the magazine tests, Sandisk tends to be faster than other brands -- on Canons. Nikons, Sony, etc, probably have other cards that work well.
This might not seem like a big deal, but when you're shooting an event with a 1D MK II (a camera that can shoot 8 frames per second), those write speeds, even with a fraction of a second difference between brands, start to add up. Nothing is worse than missing a shot because your card is slow. Or having to tell a model to hang on 'cause your CF card can't keep up with her posing.
But again, if you're shooting landscapes and have no need for speed, as you say, any ol' brand will do.

I shoot 90 % wildlife and the extra $20 that the x card cost is nothing if I go and spend a day hunting and working my butt to get a capture and the card says sorry you missed that one it tends to spoil my day and i also have a 2 gig card that cost me $20 and yep if the other brands cost $10 it would be a great deal .I posted this for the folks that missed it last time and wanted to buy the X card --sorry it was not a better deal . Next time all my post need to have a disclaimer --it is only Jeff

I've shot soccer matches, etc, and the flash card speed hasn't seemed to matter (for a 20D, with cards from 8x to 50x speed). But I don't make heavy use of continuous shooting mode and certainly not at 8fps! :-) Then of course FAST is key.

The last time I bought a "generic" card from Sterlingtek who advertised how fast it was and suggested it was comparable to all the top names. I am not in need particularly of speed, but there was a very discernable difference that even I noticed. I just noticed this card was manufactured by Toshiba Corp. I only use it when my Sandisks are full and I'm not ready to delete files. I'm sure there are some better ones out there, but for $40 delivered, I'll probably just stick with what has worked for me.
Woop! I get the fast cards and I always lement that they're SO expensive. This is 1/2 the price of my cheapest 1 gig... Then again, I'm stupid and I shop at the "camera" store because I forget I need the extra memory until the day of or day before the event and it's always WAY more expensive. Okay, you don't need a story, I get it!
Just wanted to say THANK YOU!
(And the Doug for the links!)
Oh my gosh...do you guys remember this! $500 for 1gig. I don't think I can complain about $40 for 2gig!
