Climbing Slovenian highest mountain

I've been digging through my old photos again. This time I found these - I took them in September 2003 on a two-day hike/climb in the Slovenian Alps. They were taken with my first digital camera, a 3MP Canon A70.

After a four-hour steep climb from the valley we were enjoying the views of the surrounding mountains:

The final leg of the climb involved some really steep sections with steel ropes to help you climb:

Standing on top of Mt. Triglav, the highest Slovenian mountain, you can see the trail on the crest below:

After spending the night at a mountain hut, it was worth getting up before sunrise the following morning:

Many other climbers were enjoying the views too:

It's amazing how morning colors change in a matter of only an hour and a half. These were taken: 1. just before sunrise, 2. at sunrise, 3. an hour after sunrise:

On our way down processions of hikers could be seen everwhere as this is one of the most popular mountains in Slovenia:

More photos with the description of the hike can be seen here.

Comments welcome! :D

Very nice. I totally dig the notion of mountain huts. Here in the US, they're
    not terribly popular...

speak for your own coast, blbl.gifAMC maintains quite a nice network of them over here in the northeast, including some big classy full-on lodges.

Here in the Sierra Nevada, you can find some huts but there are very few and not on the scale of those you find in Europe. I don't think you'd be able to hike
from place to place. Maybe ski into the 10th Mountain Division huts but not
many of those. I did ski out to Glacier Point in Yose one time. The "hut" is
the gift store in the summer :D

Breathtaking shots, Ana! It's great seeing the hikers on the trail and the silouhettes are superb. That little Canon 3MP did a great job! thumb.gif

Thanks, Ian! Here in Slovenia there's plenty of mountain huts and you don't have to bring along any camping gear if you go on a multi-day hike. In fact, camping is not allowed anywhere except at camp grounds (all of which are in the lowlands :D).

Thanks, Sid! It's only taken me over three years to post-process these. Now I might share some photos I took in 2004. :D

Thanks! That little Canon was actually quite bad and I replaced with a better one (A80) after a few months. mwink.gif

Beautiful shots. I think Slovenia has just moved up a notch on my short list of Places I Must Visit.
