Point Bonita Lighthouse, San Francisco

I've never heard of this lighthouse before today. I just came across it when I was wondering around the headlands.

This place is off the beaten bath, and requires a 1/2 mile hike. The trail is paved and downhill on the way there, so its pretty easy. I'm glad it wasn't too much of a muddy mess. I wasn't dressed for heavy trails today.

There are all kinds of plants along the way to keep you occupied. Even though it's 1/2 mile, it took me an hour to walk it :D

There are several old bridges along the way, and one tunnel.

Before Finally reaching the lighthouse. The final bridge is the longest, and scariest. It has a maximum weight limit of 500 pounds, and there are rangers on each end to ensure only two people cross at a time. It's very, very shaky.

But once your there, the views are amazing. Here are just one of the San Francisco skyline.

This shot was taken on the way back to the vehicle. They close the lighthouse to the public at 3:30 sharp. The ranger was pushing me all the way back :D

I hope you enjoyed the tour.

Thanks,
Dave

I certainly did!! I like them all but especially #2 because of the simple composition and the complemetary (?) use of colour and #9 because of the interesting foreground. This is right across where we were making pictures, right?

No worries, its Papyrus. It came loaded in PS CS, but you can find it for free here.

I've turned my signature into two separate brushes, and created an action for the frame. I can try to figure out how to send you the action if you want it. It's pretty simple, click the button & stamp the bottom of the picture for each part of the sig.

Did you happen to read the warning in the hall of wisdom ?

Warning* Only ever give humungus little bits of info at a time as giving him photoshop skills is like giving a gorilla a piano... sooner or later you will tire of the tune.thumb.gif

Thanks Simone! It's good to see you again. I'm glad you like the photos from today. We've been stuck with rain every day for the past two weeks! This photo was taken directly across the bay from where we were. The lighthouse is so small, I never saw it before. I just read about it in my Guide to San Francisco book today :D

How is work? Been going anywhere cool? More importantly, when are you going to make it back out here? I've found a lot more places to go since you've been here last.

Rain eh? Sounds like Holland.. Whenever those beautiful cloudy skies appear in between the rain showers i always seem to be in my car on my way to work instead of outside somewhere with a camera.. headscratch.gif

Actually there's a very short trip to SF planned the 10th of next month. Time to finally get that Crumpler-bag!! I don't know if there's time to shoot, ( definitely no time to walk to Sausalito rolleyes1.gif ) but there's always time for Starbucks!

Number 4 is my favorite plant shot, and the silhouette lighthouse shot is my favorite of the rest. I was in SF on Saturday and it was pretty gloomy. Glad to see the sun make an appearance. Is the lighthouse actually "on", or is that glow the reflection of the sun behind it?
There's a thin line between genius and stupid.

Great work. I really like the lone flower and bridge past the shoreline. Thanx for sharing.thumb.gif

Good news, the crumpler bag & starbucks are 1 block apart!

Let me know if your short on time & I can pick up the bag.

I've seen the stairs in pictures, and I'm not ready for them. Maybe I'll have to hire a sherpa for that trip :D

How far of a drive is it to Point Reyes? I was actually tossing around the idea of going there this week. But it could take 1/2 to get there by 1 going North. It looks like a very slow winding road from the parts I've been on.

Amazingly, the sun is out again today. Unfortunately, I'm stuck inside finishing some work & can't break away.

I'm not sure if the lighthouse is actually "on" in that shot. Looking at the original files, it looks like I did catch the light.

Saturday it's supposed to be nice. PR is about an hour or so North (up to
Sir Francis Drake Blvd and then out and up the coast). Tomales Bay at
    sunrise would be just spectacular.
