First attempt at large bird

I was working outside at my cabin last Sunday when I looked up and spotted two large birds circling slowly overhead. I ran in, grabbed my camera, and started shooting. Even at full zoom (only 300mm), they were a bit out of reach.

It was mid-day and I was directly under them (i.e.: I should've tweaked the exposure comp up a wee bit). This is the only shot that came out even marginally worthwhile (and it's on the low side of marginally worthwhile).

I'm guessing it's a turkey vulture but if anybody that knows birds knows a better answer, please chime in.

Looks like a Turkey Vulture, they have that distinct pinky baldy head
(no offense to sunburnt bald headed people rolleyes1.gif )

I got to see a tree full of them on time in Ohio but I stood on a branch and they all took off before I could even lift my camera to my face ne_nau.gif
    Thanks for sharing..... Skippy

15524779-Ti.gif I would say that you need a +0.7 adjustment for that shot. Definitely a turkey vulture.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

That was my guess but by the time it dawned on me, they'd moved on (and I had to get back to the stuff I was supposed to be fixing). Next time... :D

Thanks for the kind words everybody.

Nice! My turkey vulture shots never really turn out. They always need so much contrast because they are so black!
