Flying at the NYC Public Library

Hello. I'm new to this forum and have been lurking in the background for a while now, so I decided to say hello and post a picture. I'm live in Richmond, Virginia and spend most of my time photographing people.

Over the holidays I was in NYC and found this fellow and his friend skating at the NYC Public Library. It was about 45 degrees outside and windy--apparently kids don't mind cold. They also don't seem to mind flying off the patio and landing flat on their faces on the concrete sidewalk time after time after time. It was painful to watch.

Thanks for having such a great forum...I'm looking forward to spending some time here.

Welcome to the fourm. Nice action shot. I am going back and forth on whether the steps should be cropped on the bottom. They kind of bisect the image when they are all included, but cropping some out takes away from how high he really was. yes, no yes , no, maybe.... ne_nau.gif

I vote leave the steps. Congrats on a great shot to a fellow "former lurker." I also really like the background person that looks to be feeding the pigeons.

Thank you both for looking and commenting. It was fun to watch these guys, but gee it looked painful. They, however, didn't seem to mind it a bit.

Welcome Scotty. I like the shot...and the contrast, but would prefer it at a different angle so the fountain doesn't consume the skater? I know you can't really reshoot it, so maybe a pass at the channel mixer to see if you can tone down the fountain in the background might make the skater stand out. Just a thought.

Unless it was shot in B&W, this might be an image that would benefit from a subtle application of selective color. Not too bright, just enough to separate the boarder from the background. Maybe?

    Kevin and Lille,

Good ideas. Interesting thoughts. I'll give it a go and repost later today. Thanks for the comments.
