Tin City is a small village build out of corrugated iron sheets. It is located near Anna Bay - Stockton Bight Sand Dunes. It was build by very poor people before Second World War as the villages found they could survive on abundance of Pipis and fish from the sea. Today, there are apparently still three residents there who use the shacks as their base for fishing. Maintaining the huts is difficult as the dunes move everyday and to keep your home above the sand is a daily chore. The pictured man was living in the hut, which was used as a pub in a famous movie with Mel Gibson - The Mad Max.

Great shot! Fantastic expression and nice conversion too, its the sort of B&W conversion I like. I'd be interested in your process for it Ted, I feel mine arent quite there yet (there are a couple of mine in the Band thread in heree)

He just looks so weathered and busy, yet happily amused at having his picture taken, yeh nice work.
Trapped in my bedroom taking pictures...did i say bedroom? i meant studio!

I've only used simplest b&w conversion (I use power retouche plugin) the high contrast is courtesy of unusual light (low, heavy clouds and sun light comming through and under neath of them) Note, how he squints his eyes from the light and the face is much brighter than the rest of the body. It is just positioning (accidental).

Nice shot, Ted. :D Any chance you have one a little wider that shows the building being buried? It would visually tell the story you described. In this one he looks like he just has a pole sticking out of the sand (OK, with a rake).

You were 15 minutes from my house (allowing for the driving on the sand dunes) and you didn't drop in to say hi. :cry

Did you drive down from Anna Bay or Lavis Lane at Williamtown? I like the location but never see anyone when i'm there.

For these interested, there are more generic photos showing the dunes and the location of the city, but since they are ladscapes here is a link only:
