Hosting my own video?

It was suggested by a fellow SM'er that I could buy and set up a network harddrive and then host my own video clips...
Is this a difficult thing to set up? I looked on-line at network hardrive prices and they do not seem too bad...
How would I link to my Network hardrive from SM?
Thanks for any info?
I can go find specifics on the how to's, but I'd like to know if I'm over my head before I start...
