    Very cute shots.

I think the processing could be better on 6 and 7. They lack pop--needing a black point and a white point, for starters, and they're a bit yellow.

I think they have a clear black point -
they're just underexposed a bit, imo.

Valid point ( no pun intended!) I have read your pop tutorial before but never tried it, no excuses really. Thanks for getting my butt in gear. :D I really appreciate your honesty, without it I'd never get any better.

Ok, here it is - I'm not sure I did it right. It looks brighter (maybe too bright?), much less yellow, and more contrast in the face? What do you think?

Maybe too bright, but certainly better. Isn't it? If I had to choose it would definitely be this one.

thanks for your feedback! I'm flattered by your comments. The bws were all done in Adobe Lightroom, with a medium tone curve applied.

For sure. No question at all...a different quality altogether. Nice work David! I followed directions as best I could but can't say I fully understand what I did. I'll try it with a few more and see if I can get the hang of it. Any suggestions for workflow? This is going to add back all the time I have saved moving to Lightroom! headscratch.gif Not complaining...the improvement is worth it. Thanks again!

Not much, but I have remapped my keyboard so that cmd-t brings up threshold and cmd-m brings up a curves adjustment layer.

here's the 2nd. not as drastic of a change, but I think I was more accurate on the white point.

(ETA- sorry had to delete the befores from the client's gallery, as she'll be looking at it tomorrow AM!)

Where did you set the white point?

This is where I ended up when I played with it. There's no one point that really works as a true white point in this shot. I ended up setting it on the brightest part of the forehead, and then tweaking the white point manually, playing mostly with the blue and green until I got something I liked.

I think you're closer. I initially tried a spot on the high cheek, but it rendered an odd color. Then I chose a white reflection in his eyes, but I think your spot is better than either. It does take some getting used to!

Your spot on the cheek would have been much like mine on the forehead. I just then backed off the change in blue and green channels mostly, maybe a little on the red, just played with the highlights point on the channels till I got some thing I liked. The catchlights are not a SIGNIFICANT part of the image. They're specular highlights, and you should never measure off of those. They're meaningless for processing, just ignore them.

thanks for the tip. the cheek didn't seem close to true white, so i thought I was doing it wrong. I get the correlation now! clap.gif
