    Rotation Process

    Andy,

I'm presently only a little user of Smugmug.

With some 135 images, they are split into multiple galleries and multiple subcategories.

It took some 45 minutes on a T1 to undergo the rotation process.

[Open gallery, select all, rotate right, reselect photo tools after rotation done, select rotate photos, select all, rotate left, ...go to next gallery]

I can certainly imagine many others who have much more rotation if they want to folllow their MPP stat counts accurately...

May I suggest Smugmug seriously consider creating a simple, accurate stat counter vice complicated rotation process for Most Popular Photos; one which users can easily use!

    TIA
    Joe

Don't forget you can get MUCH more details stats by using Statcounter or Google Analytics. Both free, both easy to implement on your site.

Click "How To" on the Dgrin navbar, and scroll to the bottom of the page.

No, unfortunately not. It's in the hands of our SmugSorcerers. I'll ping Onethumb about it again though!

    Sorry for the hassle.

Both Google Analytics and StatCounter now in play...

However, the rotation process which took 45 minutes does not allow me to see recent photos in Most Popular.

Is there anything else I can do to work out the proper MPP so it shows recent activity?

Rotation and IP BLocking (2nd question)
    Andy wrote:

    Oops, another try...

When I spent 45 minutes rotating the photos in MPP, I see no change in their order afterward.

Yet, I was trying to reset counters to zero so I could see the new month and its rankings. I want to compare the rankings with information from Google and StatCounter.

    A 2nd Question?

If I put in the IP address so Statsounter WON'T count me site maintenance, does that also eliminate any one from my camera club who uses that IP from showing stats?

Thanks Andy, parts of BistiArt are workin' fine...

Rotating photos does not reset the hit counters to zero. It will set the popular rank to zero.

    Thanks Ivar,

I checked Statcounter this morning; someone from the camera club had done a number of page evals.

SO, How do I reduce page visits if I need to maintain the site?

My Most Popular Photo settings in Control Panel do not show much change for this new month.

Is there a way to check MPP from the month's beginning so I can change my Peoples Choice images?

Thanks for your help and its nice to see you interact!

You can set a blocking cookie. This will not count all the visits that you make from your computer. Be careful though, when you clear your cookies in your browser, you have to set it again. When you use multiple browsers, you have to set one for each browser as most don't share cookies.

In the edit settings, there is a link in the menu on the left side. Click on that, and then click on the button on the page that will appear.

No, sorry, the popular photos is a non-time specific thing. It's not possible to view the most popular of a year, or month. I wish I had a different answer for you.

You can use the stats to get an idea of what galleries/photos have been viewed most, and you can use statcounter / google analytics for something like this as well I'm sure, although the free statcounter is limited to 100 hits I think.

Thanks! I've been busy lately, but I'm still around thumb.gif

    Aha, must have paid...

That is pretty much what I saw when I tried the rotate situation.

I appreciate the confirmation though, and think Smugmug might want to get that little, but essential situation under control so the MPP updates.

Is there a place to say so?

    A New Clue!!!!!
Gallery stats are still not working. Any idea when these will be back up or if?

Not sure how this will help you but here goes.

Photos I uploaded via smugmug the other day ARE properly showing stats!

Photos I am uploading via the API are NOT showing proper stats, and have not since the upgrade.

Hope this helps you track down the issue!

    Sure thing...

These images were uploaded manually via SmugMug.com...

133459374, 133459387, 133459416 (and all in this gallery). They all show correct(ish) numbers of views in the 2000s.

These images were upload via the API referenced above, v1.1.1 and while they SHOULD show views in the several 100s, they each show 5 or 6 or 3.

134820242, 134820216, 134820208 (and all in this gallery).

Now, also of interest. If I move the images that aren't working into a different gallery via SmugMug.com, then they will start getting correct stats. Same id #, same URL being called, etc. But the only difference is the upload method.
