Java error while uploading pics in Univ uploader

Hi there,
I've searched the forums and it seems I'm not the only one experiencing difficulties while uploading multiple pictures using the Universal Uploader.
It uploads maybe 2-3 pictures and then dies giving me a "java.socketException" type error. It's quite annoying.... I can upload pics using a PC and the ActiveX uploader but I have a Mac at home and the universal uploader does not work for me.
. I tried emailing smugmug support and they were of no use... I sent them a bunch of test results and they said everything looked fine and they asked me to get the latest java. well I believe I have the latest java. And I'm still stuck. Aaargh...
I also tried downloading the smugmug uploader for OS X and it wont' sign me into smugmug. What's going on here??????
Is there a fix ? Am I missing something?
