I went to Starved Rock on Sunday to photograph the frozen falls and was not let down. This winter has been very warm so far but the last week or so the temps have been below freezing so the falls have froze and it snowed the morning I went. It was nice being the first one to walk through the freshly fallen snow, only me and the birds, deer, and I even saw a Red Fox. This is the first time I've shot in the snow but I kept an eye on my histogram and used between +.66 and +1.3 EC. The day started off with some good shooting and then the Bears won so it was even better. Enough of my babbling, here are the shots. Comments and critique are welcome.

Great shots, I have never seen a frozen water fall!!

From where I live your comment about a warm winter is quite funny. Everything is frozen and you say its warm.

Don't take offence, we never get below 16 C (60 F) day or night and when it does, we think its frezzzzzzing!!

We hit -30 F here at my house just the other day. Those pics look warm. rolleyes1.gif I was down at Starved Rock earlier in the year with even WARMER temps. It's a nice place, but Illinois needs more MOUNTAINS! thumb.gif

Cool shots, I didn't get to see any of the falls when I was there. Guess I walked up to the wrong ones.

Well now it is getting cold, but about a month ago kids were still playing in the street in shorts and a tee-shirt. Thanks for looking, glad I could show you something new.

Hey, this is the closest thing to mountains we've got here. During the summer there is not much water flowing so sometimes the falls are dry. There has been a lot of rain and now snow lately so the falls were flowing pretty well. I think they allow climbing on the ice once it has built up more. I'll see if I can get any shot of that for you later this winter.

Yeah, I can definitely say this is the best place I visited in Illinois for sure. It was a great weekend away from work in Chicago, so I had a good time. thumb.gif

Nice shots! I really like the perspective on the 2nd one. It offers a nice contrast between the icicles, the waterfall, and the rest of the scene.

There are flatter places than Illinois but I agree, we could use a mountain to two!

Great shots from Starved Rock gluwater. Been there many times but never in the winter and I do not live all that far from there!
