just messin about with this shot.. she's part of a group and hugely cropped.. can you tell me how this could be improved? what stands out for you..bad or good..
thanks
I think maybe a slightly tighter crop on the left balancing the tight crop to her hair on the right.
I like the softfocus look to it, but I tried a 25 percent unsharp mask, and it didn't hurt it any and sharpened her eyes a touch but thats a matter of personal taste IMHO.
Hmmm. You applied a blur to get the soft effect. Did you aplly the blur to a layer with the original underneath?
If you did, try erasing the blur layer in the spots people expect to be sharp. Eyes, teeth, jewelry, the edge of clothing hair maybe, but leave the soft affect on the skin and see how you like that. I have done it before to good effect.

yeah I did that.. Ed hughes has disappeared .. his blur was nice but I thought just a tad fake for a child.. I liked it better than my gaussian blur tho..I've pm'd him to ask him how he did it. I usually do it the way you do and then even sharpen the eyes and jewerly more.. I copped her a lot so she's getting softer and softer (not in the right sense ) Oh well.. I'll keep at it. Thanks for your help comments greap.
Lynn, your problems here are a lot like those of an old friend of ours. I think you should review the posts regarding the portraint of Pam in this thread
spontaneous, lively and sweet, those are the words that first come to mind. I like the composition and the pose is really good. There's but one thing for me, and that is the exposure. It might be better if it is pulled down a bit. Not much mind, just a tad. I can see what you're going for and I really appreciate it, and I think the photo only needs 1 minor tweak
Thanks for sharing Lynn!
I can't get anything out of my husband except that it is fine, it is a head shot.
My opinion is that it is the lighting. He agrees with me there, but says so what, it is a head shot. AAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH Her nose bothers me. I think with a different tilt, angle and lighting, it might make a huge difference.

She has a pretty smile and eyes. I like her hair on the left, too. Seems a shame to take crop of her best "features" off.

Looks pretty good, I think, as is.

I put her through Noise Ninja...

Well, that was nice and soothing, now I can go read my book. Thanks, Lynn.
