Hi all,

I've been extra quiet over the last months but remained a lurker...

On a recent trip back to SA (Johannesburg / Lanseria) for a holiday, I was involved in an armed robbery and held hostage for around 6 hours.

My camera bag, with everything in it, was one of the items taken. The contents is listed below.
Should any South African DGrinners be offered it from less than human people, I would appreciate it if you could contact me (crispin.proctor@gmail.com) or anonymously contact Inspector Vermaak on, 012 370 1075, 082 925 9910.
The stolen items would include:
Nikon D200 s/n 8005169
Nikon 70-200f2.8 VR s/n 318778
Nikon 18-200 f3.5-5.6 VR (serial unknown at this time)
Tamrac Cyber8 Camera bag
Nikon SB600 flash
Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro
2X teleconvertor
Sony Vaio laptop (Fits into the back of the camera)
various filters, spare batteries, CF cards etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Crispin
Cheers,

Sorry to hear you lost all your gear, but glad to hear your okay :D
I can imagine it was quite a terrifying experience, I know how scared I was when my brother, his wife and I were caught up in Riot in Indonesia a few years back, nothing like being the car immediately in front of an Army Tank with Soldiers holding machine guns eek7.gif our host that day hid us in a factory along with several other tourists till it was safe to try and get us back to our hotel.

I'd rather lose my gear than my life Crispin, material things can always be replaced....... hope it was covered by insurance .... Skippy

Holy cow. I'm glad you're safe.

Care to share your experience, so that others might learn from it? If not here, then perhaps a thread in our Location, Location forum? We could all learn from what happened to you.

I hear stories about how beautiful that region is, then I hear and read horror stories like this. That sucks, Crispin! I hope you get your gear back, but from other things I've read, I'm glad you made it out unharmed, gear or not!

That is terrible Crispin, I'm glad you came away unharmed. It must feel horrible to lose all your gear, did you have it insured? I came across this article the other day, it wasn't you was it?

I´m terribly sorry to hear that! Even though your case sounds a lot more scary I can definately imagine how you feel about your camera loss. My camera also got stolen. I was on my first week of my 6 months stay in Ecuador, where I´m still, now with a smaller camera and hopefully a lesson learned concerning people who appear to be too friendly at first. You can read about my case here.

Hopefully you get your stuff back!
    Best Wishes from Ecuador,

Homeowners insurance should cover your losses. Have you looked into that?headscratch.gif
