Hi y'all,

Slowy but surely I'm catching up on my post processing backlog. Here's some recently processed shots from December.

wow, those are all gorgeous!!! for some reason, maybe coz im on a different monitor at work, these colors look SO VIVID and the sharpness cuts like a knife! are you using a new lens or are you post processing different - not to suggest that previous images didnt look great. THESE JUST LOOK SO AWESOME!

Thanks Troy. Nothing really different, same cameras and lenses. The only change is that I'm doing less sharpening in my post workflow. I am being more critical on my shot selection in the field and on my PC. My Recycle Bin doth floweth over.

Wow, that eagle shot is stunning. I love the contrast in color between the deep blue sky, and the colors on the bird. Well done!

Nice series Harry. thumb.gif Even included a shot of Jim using "proper" technique (tripod & shutter releas) That's a big arse lens he's got. eek7.gif Guess he must be shooting a great blue heron in Indiana. :D

Very nice shots as usual Harrybowdown.gifbowbowdown.gifbow

Well as some of you may have seen on Good Morn America ...my little part of the Midwest {Wichita KS} is a Baldy convention right now (no pun intended Baldy), actually between the 2 parks with in a 1/4 mile of where I live ther were between 20 and 25 last weekend alone at the same time not counting what I presume to be a horde of Juviniles....However with all of 630mm (Sigma 70-210 f2.8 APO and a Sigma 2x APO EX converter + the 1.5 crop of my 7D) I can't get close enuff......

Harry what do you use to get that close as in the 1st shot, are those always full framed shots (not as in full frome sensor) but as in not cropped shots???
EDIT:::::: NO NEED TO ANSWER...JUST FOUND YOUR STICKY AND IT HAS BECOME BOOKMARKED

.....Of course now I am having to fight with really stoopid people that think parking directly under the Baldy Trees and sitting smoking with with their little P/S and hoping they return is driving me nutz alsoooo....I even had some trying to stick their smoking head into my little blind (5 gal bucket for seat and 2 king sized flat sheet to cover me and poded camera), asking me what I was trying to hide from....now gotta wash the D@*# smkoe smell from everything...

Thanks Mike. PF was shooting his SDigma 300-800 in that shot. He was lucky it was a Canon mount. If it had been a Nikon mount only one of us would have left the swamp that day. naughty.gif

Harry, Dozer's right. There is something different in these shots. The color
has more pop, DOF is about the subject but not too deep. Crisp lookers.

Harry, you're holding out your secret for these beautiful shots thumb.gif

Thank you very much Art. Its tough to get good eagle shots in the wild with only 210mm even with TCs. You'll need something between 300-400 at the very least.

Folks always amaze me. I was shooting the eagle one day when some silly birder started to distarct me by telling that the accursed mask duck was up the road and I should be getting shots of the duck. :bash

Don't even get me started on the P&S crowd. There's nothing I like better than to wait for a bit for an eagle to land and then have it spooked when the P&S folks come rushing up to the base of the tree and try to get shots with their pocket cameras and cell phone cameras. :rambo

Thanks for the advice Harry.....Looking at selling the Siggy 70 - 210 f2.8 and moving to the Siggy 170 - 500 that would give me 750 at the long end and with a 1.4 that would be just a tad over 1000mm and that should be good enuff for most wildlife here in Ks [with deer I can get with in 30 yrds or closer....birds are another matter :-) ] and if I shoot any portraits or weddings I still have my 24-70 / 2.8 to use for that........

Thanks Al, I was pleased with how the red shouldered hawk came out. That wasn't wind, PF has a wind machine that he uses to make his shots more dramatic. biggrinbounce2.gif

    Hey Nick,

I can't help it if I live in bird central. I can't get away from them. I had a great egret and GBH in the stream behind my house today. I took a walk down my development's nature trail and I saw sandhills, wood storks, and limpkins.

The vultures aren't stupid. They see me and say "just about 60, overweight, drinks too much, smokes. Hmm, sooner or later he's our's".

I ain't got no secret Ian. The only real change in what I'm doing is that I won't take the shot if the light's not right and if the shot isn't right after I take it I won't post process it.

I'm lucky, I'm retired and I'm a 15 minute drive from the Viera Wetlands. If I wake up in the morning and the light is right I go on down and shoot for a bit. Most shooters don't have that option. I'm passing up eagle shots now when I don't like the light.
