Ok, I have not been able to get to B&H to buy a diffuser for my 580EX, what would be the best way to make one tonight for tomorrow that will not look too boot leg? I have a thought I could do something with a gallon water bottle but not completely sure how...

Styrofoam cup or even a dixie cup works.

The 580 has a diffuser and bounce card built in that works reasonably well. Put those on and direct the flash at 45 degree angle and try that.

The very best diffuser is a nice white wall.....or lacking that, a nice white ceiling. Or a 3x5 feet nice, white poster board. I am beginning to think I see a pattern here.

If you can fire the strobe, off camera, shoot it through a nice, white bedsheet at the subject.

The best diffuser I've EVEr used is the "Better Bouncecard." It cost me $2 and 10 minutes and works better than a LS or a Stofen. Google for Chuck Gardner's version of it - Mine is similear, but taller and narrower. Here's the link to his:

The Better Bouncecard works even better when used to bounce the light off a nice white wall toothumb.gif

I heard somewhere that bouncing off a white wall was a good idea. Maybe even a white ceiling.

Oh well, its probably just an urban legand and you really do need a styrofoam cup to achieve decent results........wings.gif
