globally turn off originals

I want to turn off originals globally, without changing anything else. How can I do that? Can I edit my default gallery settings? But that won't affect those galleries that don't use the default...

Then, if I turn off originals, is there a way for *me* to download an original photo, without changing the settings?

Sorry for the basic questions, but I tried doing it - no luck - and a search didn't turn up the answer.

edit one gallery settings, and then save that as a quick settings template. Apply the template to all your galleries.
