What sthis all about?

Im sure it's a really clever idea (discussed at length on POTN) but I still don't get it , (but then I am stoopid when it comers to compooters) they don't print but they proof - how''s that work they don't seem to explain it very well :scratch

I was just curious, I expect whatever it is, SM does it already - presumably???

It looks to be a service that provides online proofing for ordering (like www.instaproofs.com) where they just handle the image hosting and order transaction, it's up to you to fullfill the order.

    You upload pics to pictureproofs
Your customers order from picture proofs
    You get your customer's order
    You get prints made
You ship prints to your customer
Pictureproofs cuts you a check (minus the 5% of the order)

It's a very cheap way to test the waters to sell photos online (no setup costs, monthly fees). But you have to fulfill the order at whichever lab you choose (
    www.whcc.com, www.mpix.com, samsclub even, etc).

Main difference in workflow is smugmug uses ezprints to fulfill orders for you.

    You upload pics to smugmug
Your customers order pics from smugmug
    You/smugmug/ezprints get your customer's order
    Ezprints gets prints made
    Ezprints ships to your customer
Smugmug cuts you a check (minus the 15% of the order)

    Picture Proofs
It is basically what Rando said. I am currently using their service and it is rather convenient.

What I do is upload the same files, but in high resolution, to Winkflash or such and wait for orders. When anyone orders, I have the pictures shipped directly from Winkflash to their houses. Easy as pie!

It is one extra step in printing, but you get to choose your own print lab and not be forced to pay ridiculous printing prices or montly fees like Collages.net I got a real bad experience there. *glum

Overall, Picture Proofs just does online proofing for photographers. Give it a try!
