Costa Rica Part 4 - La Fortuna
After a nice nice time on the beaches we decided it would be great to get back inland and get a break from the sweltering heat so we headed up to La Fortuna in Northern Costa Rica. La Fortuna is a town directly under Volcon Arenal which is one of the most active volcanos in the world. It spews red hot rocks from the summit every single day and is continuously smoking. We got in and was met by a girl named Nidia when we got off the bus. She said she could get us a room for $20 a night and we agreed to go with her there. We took a walk to the hotel called El Buhro and she said she could get us a room with direct view of the Volcano for only $18. We quickly agreed and had and awesome room. She would end up being an awesome help for our whole trip as she booked us tours, check on flights for us, and got our transportation to the Caribbean. If you ever go to La Fortuna I would highly recommend her (she charged nothing extra).
This is the nice little town of La Fortuna.
The church in the center of town
The view from our hotel balcony. It was a tuff life. One day we were there we spent probably 4 hours sitting listening to music, writing and reading.
We took a tour of the Volcano where we walked around it and got a great view of Arenal Lake. This was one of the signs along the way.
Unforuntaly the volcano is clear about 2 days a year so we had plently of clouds. We were able to see some activity thought and it was great to be able to hear it.
We stayed in La Fortuna for a few days and had some great smoothies at one of the restraunts then took a Tourismo bus directly to Cahuita. We loved taking local transportation because it was cheap but going to San Jose first and then off to Cahuita the next morning would have wasted a day and we didn't want that. Next stop, the Caribbean!
