Here's journey of sorts through Alcatraz Island (San Francisco) in Dec 2006.
I tried not to take the expected images, but looked for other angles on the island.

This took place over 2 days, just wandering around the island.
Day 1: I used only my 70-200mm f2.8 on my Canon 5D, and tried to take shots outward of the island.
Day 2: I used only my 24-70mm f2.8. (with some fill flash).
Tried to look inward.

You can view the gallery here:

I also have a gallery of surrounding Bay Area shots that fit in.

Here's a couple of my favorites from Alcatraz:
Old shack oiutside the exersize yard

There were many of these guys built into the walls walking up to the cell house.

An old stairway coming down from the now burned down afficers houses.

I just started my Smugmug site, and just joined DGrin, I've been enjoying allot of the pages here. Very informative and fun.

I really enjoyed your Alcatraz gallery. The post processing really makes them stand out.

Hi Greg and welcome to Dgrin :D
I've been fortunate enough to have been able to visit Alcatraz many years ago, and what an experience it was.

Coming from Australia we didnt realize how popular the tours are, and were lucky enough to get the last 4 tickets on this particular day.

In my mind I imagined what was behind those walls would be very primative, but was actually shocked when I saw it..... it didn't look anywhere near as bad as I had imagined it would look.

You got yourself some great shots there Greg clap.gif
Thank you for sharing your trip with us, and we hope you will continue to post and share on the many forums throught Dgrin.

Thanks everyone!, my background in more in art than photography.
Allot of this is new to me, I tend to 'work' over my pieces as more artwork then photographic.
