RAAF Museum - Warning (BroadBand)
Yesterday my cousin and I took a trip to the RAAF Museum at Point Cook, just outside of Melbourne.
I have never been there before, and was keen to give my new wide angle lens a bit of a try out
Having never been to the RAAF Museum I have to tell you I was truly impressed by what we saw, and the fact that the entry is FREE
To access the Museum you must go through security, show proof of identy and sign in, once you sign in you are given an Orange Pass that you must hand back when you leave the grounds.
The RAAF Museum is a non profit organization, has extremely friendly staff, and hangers full of the most amazing flying machines I have ever seen in my life.
I can only imagine the amount of hours of hard work that have been put into restoring the aircraft held on the Base.
The displays will have you trying to imagine what it must have been like to fly in them..... kinda scary too when you see that many of those old Planes were only a type of canvas cover on the wings :huh
Many of the items found in the RAAF Museum date back to 1921.
As well as having all those Amazing Flying Machines on display, you even get to see a flying display outside on the runway :clap :clap
Our Pilot for this day was Mr Mike FALLS Snr.
Now one of these days I am gonna learn to write names of things down when I go out shooting.......forgive me :rolleyes
So here you go, the photo story of my first visit to the RAAF Museum.
All the images taken inside the Museum were shot at 1600 and 800 ISO all shot taken hand held (Lens used = Canon 10mm-22mm)
Shots taken outside were taken with both the 10-22mm and 70-200mm.

Very nice work skip

My Photos
You gave me some ideas that I need to try the next time I am in Midland / Odessa at the Commemorative Air Force museum.
I noticed some USA markings on some of the planes. As a matter of fact the Marine prop plane looks like an AT-6 or SNJ-3. I flew in an SNJ-3 saturday.
BS
Thanks David, the Museum is well worth a visit, and the exhibits are in Mint condition ...... Skippy

You really need a wide angle lens for inside these type of places, I knew that before I went, and with my lens less than a week old, I thought that Museum would be a great place to go try it out, one for the size of the Planes and two because I figured the lighting would be pretty bad inside.
I'm very pleased with performance of the Canon 10mm-22mm
Thanks for looking Teeds, and welcome to the Dgrin forum

No no no you got that all wrong, that's why they built the Sydney Harbour Bridge, so the Kangaroos could cross every day at 4pm, they shut the Bridge down to allow the Kangaroos to cross... the planes frighten them

Great work! Glad you went to see the Museum. It is WORLD CLASS.
Great shots.
Mike Falls is a visiting pilot with the Museum. That Harvard is his and he very kindly donates his time and aircraft on a regular basis to display his beautiful aircraft.
The Museum holds the flying displays every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 1pm (weather permitting).
The RAAF fly's its own, CT4, Tiger Moth, Mustang, Winjeel and Sopwith Pup.
The museum has over 100 volunteers who donate their vast experience and time to keep the aircraft looking so good. Without them the Museum would be but a shell of what it is now.
So glad you went and enjoyed it.
Cheers
Chris

Thanks Chris, we did give a nice donation as we walked in, more than a just a few gold coins, it was worth every cent
I'll be going again for sure, I loved it we were lucky there were some workmen doing something inside the Museum, and so they all the lights on inside, and later they turned them off, so were had already photographed most of what was inside that Hanger
The light as you know is so low that you really need a tripod.
We had a great day, even my cousin said he'd like to go back too
Thanks for looking Chris........ Skippy

Thanks David,
Didnt try exposure bracketing, because we didn't take the tripods inside, figured there would be plenty of light in there and then found out there wasnt
I should have tried it on the HARVARD 111 but it never crossed my mind to do it silly me .... but I will try it out hopefully this weekend
Thanks for all your help on that David........ Skippy

Very nice pictures you have of those plains.
Without tripod ...
Health !:D
Hi ya Swartzy, yeah I know now that next time I need to get the tripod out of the car, I was happy with the results considering everything shot was hand held, and luckily there were hardly any people there.
The Canon 10mm-22mm is quite an amazing little lens, and its very light.
I'm really enjoying it, I'm amazed at what you can fit in without having to step too far away from the actual subject
I'd like to go back again....... thanks for looking ... Skippy

We were lucky that most of the shots we got were with extra lights on in the building, they turned them off later and boy it was a whole lot darker once they did that.
The Planes are huge, the Museum's Exhibits are of hight standards, and the layouts and display areas are outstanding
Thanks for looking.......... Skippy
