Hi All
My Shuttle XPC running Xp+PSHOP+Lightoom bit the dust today and I've been forced to work on my Ubuntu Linux machine. What I really need is to find some software (apart from Gimp) that I can use to work on - esp a decent RAW convertor if one exists on Linux. I can open the RAW ORF files in Ubuntu and use GIMP ok (nstalled dcraw and another lib that hooks into gimp and gnome). Damn I miss Lightroom and its not even been a day without the machine !
Cheers

Hi Bob
Thanks for the tip - just installed rawstudio and its a very basic piece of software. You can tell its designed by a geek for a geek - theres no attention to the UI and someoen would work with an image. Oh well, need to fix the Shuttle somehow - was jsut hopign in the mean tim to avoid having to use the GIMP.

For RAW, why not download a trial of Bibble? It supports Linux, and is a fabulous RAW editor:

Until I gave up and went to Apple, I used to use vmware to run Photoshop in a Windows VM. Wine (a windows compatibility package for Linux) supports PS 7, but not later without major hacking. Even PS 7 is much better than any alternative, IMHO.
There is a rumor that OS X also virtualizes with a VM product from a company called Mocha 5. I don't have the time to follow up on this.
I've downloaded a copy of Bibble and will try it out tonight. Every image/raw editor on Linux that I've tried so far is just appauling - applications designed by coders for coders. If the Linux Dev's used some logic and attempted to (a) clone PSHOP in terms of the GUI and layout and (b) understand how people actually use an application like photoshop then I think we'd have a serious image editor.
In the meantime, I've got a copy of PS 6.0 which I'll try running under wine and see how that goes. If I'm going to spend $150+ on an app its going to be on Lightroom.
Thanks for all the help
Cheers
