I've been having a lot of fun with my new lens Santa brought me - a Canon 400 5.6, with a 1.4XTC. I can't believe how much sharper this lens is compared to my previous telephoto.
These shots were taken in Lemon Valley, Nevada - just outside of Reno.

Thanx for looking. Comments and critiques welcomed and appreciated.

    Congrats Kevin
Nice shots. Oh, what a lens huh? Is your TC a Canon or another brand? That's my next item to pair with the 400....did you tape the pins as well for auto focus?

The northern shoveler is a fun subject to shoot....looks icy out there. Good job.

David, sorry it's taken me awhile to respond. The TC I'm using is a Canon, and yes I have the pins taped up. It will autofocus with the pins taped up, however the autofocus is very slow and 'jumpy'. Because of this, it really is not a good combination for birds in flight - before going out to shoot, I kind of have to decide if I'm going to be going for birds in flight (will leave the TC off) or still birds. I guess I just need to uprade to the Mark II N mwink.gif.
