Morning Drive
Hi you'll, :wave
We have had very unFlorida like weather for this past weekend, cold and rainy. :confused I couldn't shoot at all. This morning it was still chilly but it wasn't raining so I had an hour this morning so I hopped in the car and drove down to the wetlands and it was a beautiful morn.

Harry my friend,
I am really in awe of your use of the 'magic morning light' The Caracara is outstanding, the Egret overwhelming and the landscape photos are also very appealing. I especially dig the sharpness of the first one. The richness in colours in these photos is superb. There's a lot to learn from ya ol' man
thanks for sharing Harry!

Dropped to the 50s during the day, brrrrrrr. Had to bring one plant in. At least it got back to 60 yesterday and it was a nice day. I think my blood has thinned after almost 20 years away from the NY/NJ area. But I still don't like the heat either, .

I love shooting in the morning. The light this morning was particularly sweet coming after two days of rain. Thanks for the kind words.

I have lost my tolerance for cold weather. A year ago I was shooting in NYC by the river when the wind chill was below zero degrees. Now I think it's chilly if it goes below 70 degrees.

So, your week probably will be, too.
I had a little talk with another photographer the other day, ran into him while I was shooting. Got lots of info. He says the birds are scarce right now. So we know where the birds are, and we know why. They don't like the cold either.
I assume they come back. I know they do, actually. And some pass through, etc. If a yr ago you were still in New York, what do you hear about your bird population as we get warmer and you do too?
I like your Car..... bird, by the way. I love herons, and yours is a particularly nice one, but the other one is unusual......I haven't seen one.

Fred, get away from that cold weather and get your butt down to Florida. Its a lot warmer and it has a lot of photo ops.

Thanks Jeff, glad you liked the pics. Could you give me a bit more info on the bird ID such as coloring, color of legs and bill, also when you say pointed is there a curve or is the bill straight?

I don't see this many waterfowl, in a month :cry And they were all just sittin there waiting for Harry to come visit.....
So you had cold and rain, I feel for you. Having to go out in 60 degree temps....brrrrrr:lol J/K, the weather has been lousy here too. But, if I knew there were like 20 egrets and herons waiting for me, I'd be wrapping the 20D in a gallon sized baggie and hittin the road
Nice pics Harry. You live in paradise and by god you've earned the right

The tricolored are fun to shoot. They are very expressive and not as shy around humans as some of the other herons.

20 degrees, please I don't want to consider the possibility. We have an active bird population year round. In nYC the birds weren't active until the spring but that was ok because I wasn't too active in the winter either.
The Caracara is an interesting bird. They are vulture like hawks getting most of their meals from carrion.

The funny thing is that I probably passed more birds on the way to the wetlands than I found in the wetlands. They were all over the local ponds and lakes. It just didn't seem right to shoot one with a big house in the background. Just didn't have that "wildife" feel.
Its a good thing I'm a dedicated photograoher or I don't think I would have gone out in those frigid conditions. :roll

All of our Birds here seem to have migrated to your place for the winter, all I've seen lately are crows.
Have you spotted that Eagle lately?

Thanks Ed. We have a family of Caracaras that hang out by the Wetlands. I've never even heard of them before I moved down here.
I saw an eagle just the other day. He had the poor taste to be backlit so Icoldn't get a decent shot of him. :cry
