I've been photographing various stages of our BMW M3 racecar.
This is how it looked when we got it from BMW. A bare shell...

Additional roll cage we put in...

Back from the paint shop. Mirrors on, steering rack in, tail lights installed...

I'll post more as the car progresses and photos are "cleared." Can't give away too may secrets to the competition. :)

Does the shell and chassis come in like that from BMW? I see its got suspension fitted, What else comes with it? Does the engine have to be the original?

It comes from BMW Motorsport with a rollcage, that is it. It comes with no suspension at all. The chassis is also modified / reinforced for racing in certain spots. The sheet metal is identical to the street car. We threw a stock M3 suspension in it and some random wheels/tires on it just so we could roll it around the shop.

In our series it has to run the original engine, yes.

Awesome car, thanks for the shots. Can't wait to see more of the progression.

Thanks Doug, what sort of engine mods are you allowed & what kind of power:weight ratio do you end up with?

    Interesting Stuff, Thanks thumb.gif

Engine mods are basically not allowed. That engine stock makes 333HP, but we should be making more than that since we can run different electronic management which lets us fine tune it quite a bit. The final power numbers won't be known until the car is on the dyno. The car can weigh no less than 2950 LBS, according to the rules.

Sorry about all the questions Doug, but what's that in the right hand corner of the boot (trunk), a dry sump tank??

    No problem! Ask away!
That is exactly right, it is a dry sump.

clap.gif Excellent! Thanks, this is a great thread. Man, I'd love to spend a few laps behind the wheel, what a blast that would be.
