I went out and watched the Georgia Tech Lacrosse team play Presbyterian College this afternoon.

I love watching lacrosse. I guess it's appeals to some primal instinct; watching guys chase a ball around a field while they're hitting their opponents with a stick. It's great fun to watch!

That first shot the guy almost looks like the bionicle man or something! Those gloves look so robotic, and his helmet and how it looks like he is holding himself off the ground just add to the effect!!

First of all thanks for the comments. Yes, they were all shot with the Sigma 70-200 (aperture priority at f/7.1). There wasn't a cloud in the sky, so shutter speed wasn't a problem.

    Fantastic Shots!!

I'm jealous from a bunch of different ways--but mostly because even though there were some various games/scrimmages going on in area (in Baltimore, you can ALWAYS find a lax game) and the it was a sunny day--it was only about 25 to 30 degrees outside. That's just too cold.

Glad to see lax is catching on down south. Is GT a club team?

Really nice work. I think Lax is a lot like football in that it gives some great shooting opportunities. Plenty of action all over the field...

Why f7.1 ?? F3.5-f4.5 would hav emade backgrounds less distracting

Yes, at Georgia Tech lacrosse is a club sport. I would agree that it would be nice for ACC lacrosse to be better represented in Div I. With the very rapid growth of lacrosse in the high schools down here, maybe that will happen soon.

f/7.1? Mainly because I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize where it was set. eek7.gif It was the first game of the season and I'm a little rusty, I guess.

    Hi Kent ....

I was fortunate enough to meet Kent on the sidelines Saturday at Tech ... I was there shooting, too. I even offered Kent my gloves ..... (hey, it was cold Saturday!) .....

Here's one of mine from Saturday .... more on my SportsShooter page (linked in my sig).

    You Guys are killing me....
Cecil, I met you at the Pope/Lassiter JV football game this fall, I'm the idiot who dropped my lens in the Chattahoochie River a week later. If you recall Cecil, I am a HUGE GT fan and I graduated from Presbyterian College (my screen name even says so....the Presbyterian College BLUE HOSE and the Georgia Tech YELLOW JACKETS) AND my daughter plays lacrosse and my wife coaches a Junior High feeder team. How did I not know this game was going on Saturday? headscratch.gifscratchheadscratch.gifI could kick myself. Who won? PC is only in their 2nd year of lacrosseso it was probably pretty ugly.

You and Kent both got some incredible shots! WOW!

I did see on the GT web page that GT is playing Suth Carolina in hockey on Friday night out in Duluth. I think I am going to go out there with my daughter and see how many bad shots I can take.

Boy, am I upset with myself.

Yes, you did meet me at the Lassiter JV game last season ... small world in this forum, isn't it ?!

Actually, the GT/Presbyterian game wasn't all that ugly - Presbyterian is a much improved team from last season and they gave Tech about all they could handle. Final score was 10-8 Tech, and Presbyterian was UP 4-3 at halftime .... But you could tell that it was "early" season .... Waaaaay too many loose balls for both teams.

Check out Tech's game schedule and plan to make it down for a game .... I think you'll find someone there you know !

I'm not sure how Lacrosse is played...but it looks violent...I suppose that's why they wear head gear. Although I would really like to see some facial expressions...seems like this particular sport would have some great facials and lots of passion.

    Great shots.

If you get a chance, take in a lacrosse game. It's a very exciting sport; particularly at the collegiate level. I wouldn't call it violent, just aggressive.

I agree that it would have been nice to be able to see more expressions on the player's faces. The lighting conditions were a little tough. There wasn't a cloud in the sky on the day of this particular game and it began at 1:00 p.m. Very bright sun led to very dark shadows inside of those helmets.

Thanks for looking and for your comments.

    Hi,
That first shot is so awesome.
The one on your web page with the ball in the back of the goal and the player celebrating is very cool.
I take lacrosse pictures for whatever team my son is on (high school). This year all the games are at night. I'm dreading the grain and blur.
Thanks for sharing the cool pictures. I'm psyched for the season to start out here in the west.

How could you pass up tomorrow night against Vanderbilt? It's supposed to be about 30 degrees at game time. thumb.gif
