We took the kids up to Grass Valley, Truckee, and Colfax for the weekend to play in the snow and connect with some old friends.

This was their first trip to real snow and they had a blast!

At the Donner Memorial, there was 8-9' of snow drifts to play in. We watched the movie and toured the museum, teaching our children about cannibalism (at least that's the part they took away).

The top of the monument is supposed to signify how deep the snowpack was during the winter of 1846, when the Donner Party got stuck.

On the way back down the mountain, we visited some friends who raise llamas. They're like giant cats...very gentle and soft. I swear they'd love to jump in your lap and lick your ear, if you'd let them.
